Japan Raises Beef With Tyson Meat Imports

Law360, New York (October 25, 2011, 7:25 PM EDT) -- Japan halted the import of beef from a Tyson Foods Inc. factory in Illinois after Japanese officials could not verify that a shipment they had received from the plant met health safety standards, according to Tuesday news reports.

Japan received cargo Oct. 17 from a Hillsdale, Ill., packing plant of Tyson Fresh Meats, a Tyson Foods subsidiary, that did not carry the required documentation to confirm the meat was not contaminated with pathogens for bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad cow disease, Reuters reported.
