Law360, Los Angeles (October 26, 2011, 9:17 PM ET) -- The California federal judge presiding over Oracle America Inc. and Google Inc.'s intellectual property feud over the Android smartphone operating system decided Wednesday that he would hear Oracle's claims of alleged copyright and patent infringement separately.
In breaking down the trial into three phases, U.S. District Judge William H. Alsup said he would have the liability on Oracle's copyright claims determined by special verdict before allowing a jury to render a decision on Google's alleged patent infringement.
