Law360, New York (October 27, 2011, 3:12 PM ET) -- The Coca-Cola Co. on Thursday acquired the fifth-largest independent U.S. bottling company for $360 million, continuing a push to bring its bottlers in-house.
With the purchase, Great Plains Coca-Cola Bottling Co. will become an operating unit within Coca-Cola Refreshments, a wholly owned Coca-Cola subsidiary. The deal is expected to close later this year.
Coca-Cola Refreshments CEO Steve Cahillane said the subsidiary would look to leverage Great Plains' product supply and customer service operations and assimilate the bottling company's more than 1,200 employees.
