US Tracks Down $7B In Allegedly Missing Iraq Aid Funds

Law360, New York (October 27, 2011, 6:30 PM EDT) -- U.S. auditors reported Thursday that they had located $6.6 billion in previously unaccounted-for Iraq reconstruction funds, saying nearly all the money had been transferred to the Central Bank of Iraq.

Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction Stuart Bowen set off a firestorm of criticism in July 2010, when the Los Angeles Times quoted him as saying the missing money might have been stolen outright in "the largest theft of funds in national history."
