Del. AG Targets Mortgage Database Over Deceptive Info

Law360, Wilmington (October 27, 2011, 6:11 PM EDT) -- The state of Delaware filed suit on Thursday against Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems Inc., accusing the industry-created mortgage tracking service of deceiving consumers and fueling the national foreclosure crisis.

MERS’s private mortgage database clouds information critical to borrowers looking to stave off foreclosure, including information about who ultimately owns their loans, according to a complaint lodged by State Attorney General Beau Biden in Delaware Chancery Court.
