San Francisco's Cellphone Warning Law Put On Hold

Law360, New York (October 27, 2011, 8:19 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Thursday blocked most of a San Francisco ordinance that would require retailers to post warnings about alleged health risks associated with radiation from cellphones, ruling the city law violated the First Amendment.

U.S. District Judge William Alsup issued a temporary injunction preventing the city from requiring retailers to post signs in shops and warning stickers on promotional material, but allowed the mandated distribution of a city-sponsored "fact sheet" about risks from radiation if the city toned down some controversial claims.
