Verizon, Others Violate Ringback Tone Patents: Suits

Law360, San Diego (October 28, 2011, 4:12 PM EDT) -- Verizon Communications Inc., T-Mobile USA Inc. and other cellphone service providers were accused Friday in Delaware federal court of infringing two Callertone Innovations LLC patents for ringback tones.

The Hewitt, Texas-based plaintiff filed six separate suits against Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint Nextel Corp., Boost Mobile LLC, Alltel Corp. and Virgin Mobile USA Inc., asserting U.S. Patent Numbers 7,852,995 B2 and 7,860,225 B2, both titled “Method and apparatus for selectively providing messages in telecommunications systems” and issued in December 2010.
