Reps. Knock Opt-Out Facet Of Verizon’s Targeted Ad Plans

Law360, New York (November 4, 2011, 5:53 PM EDT) -- Two U.S. congressmen said Friday they were concerned that Verizon Communications Inc. and Verizon Wireless were requiring customers to opt out of rather than affirmatively opt in to programs that share information about them to aid advertising efforts.

Reps. Edward Markey, D-Mass., and Joe Barton, R-Texas, voiced their criticism while still praising the companies for being remarkably open with customers about new programs that use their data to deliver targeted mobile and online advertisements and to create business and marketing reports.
