Judge Issues Mixed Ruling In Chip Patent Case

Law360, New York (June 29, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The judge presiding over a long-running patent suit between rivals MediaTek Inc. and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. has refused to take a side in the electronics makers' fight for summary judgment.

In her order issued Friday, Judge Maxine Chesney granted and dismissed in part both companies' motions for judgments in their favor, leaving the dispute over computer chip patents unresolved.

Japan's Matsushita first sued Taiwan's MediaTek back in August 2005, claiming the rival's optical disk controller chips and chipsets were infringing three of its patents....
