NY Times Accuses HuffPost Of Copying Blog Name

Law360, New York (November 7, 2011, 5:34 PM EST) -- The New York Times Co. on Friday slapped AOL Inc. with a trademark and unfair competition suit over the Huffington Post's “Parentlode” blog, claiming AOL and HuffPost purposefully picked a name confusingly similar to that of the Times' competing “Motherlode” parenting blog.

The two-count complaint filed in New York federal court, which names AOL and TheHuffingtonPost.com Inc. as defendants, alleges former employee and "Motherlode" author Lisa Belkin departed from the Times in September, planning to write a competing blog for HuffPost. AOL bought HuffPost for $315...
