State Dept. Watchdog Eyes Keystone Pipeline Analysis

Law360, New York (November 7, 2011, 3:07 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of State's inspector general is reviewing whether the agency properly handled the contract for an environmental analysis of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline, the watchdog revealed Monday.

Responding to a request by more than a dozen lawmakers, Deputy Inspector General Harold Geisel said his office would probe whether the State Department violated conflict of interest rules and other laws in preparing its environmental impact statement and national interest determination for the TransCanada Corp. project.
