4th Circ. Upholds Estonian Contractor's Fraud Conviction

Law360, New York (November 8, 2011, 9:24 PM EST) -- The Fourth Circuit on Tuesday affirmed a district court's conviction and sentencing of an Estonian national for attempting to obtain kickbacks in return for awarding U.S. government contracts in Iraq.

In a per curiam opinion, the appeals court upheld a North Carolina federal court's ruling that Marko Rudi had committed major fraud and a sentence of 33 months in prison, despite a plea bargain in which the government had recommended a sentence on the shorter end of 24 to 30 months.
