MBS Claims Against Goldman Sachs Up 30-Fold To $16B

Law360, New York (November 9, 2011, 4:28 PM EST) -- Goldman Sachs Group Inc. faces lawsuits related to $15.8 billion in mortgage-backed securities it bought, sold or underwrote that later soured — up from only $485 million in similar claims just three months ago, according to a regulatory filing Wednesday.

That figure does not consider potential payments Goldman could be forced to make, which could hit $2.6 billion as of Sept. 30, up from a $2 billion estimate in June, the company said in papers filed with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission.
