Ford, BMW, Others Face ITC Probe Over GPS Patents

Law360, New York (November 17, 2011, 7:54 PM EST) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission on Thursday agreed to open an investigation into claims from Beacon Navigation GmbH that the top 19 car manufacturers, including Ford Motor Co., Audi AG, BMW AG and Toyota Motor Corp., infringed patents covering navigation technology.

Beacon Navigation filed a complaint with the ITC on Oct. 21, accusing major car manufacturers of violating Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 by importing cars into the U.S. with preinstalled GPS units that infringe four patents.
