Visa, MasterCard ATM Price-Fixing Actions To Be United

Law360, New York (November 23, 2011, 3:45 PM ET) -- A Washington federal judge said Wednesday that she intended to consolidate four class actions accusing Visa Inc. and MasterCard Worldwide of antitrust violations over restrictions placed on ATM access fees.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson said that all four cases allege that the two credit card behemoths “maintain an unlawful horizontal price fixing agreement“ that bars ATM operators from offering lower-than-standard prices for transactions that don’t involve Visa or MasterCard, in violation of the Sherman Act, according to the minute order.
