First American Won't Get Jury In AG's Home Appraisal Suit

Law360, New York (November 23, 2011, 2:07 PM EST) -- Title insurance giant First American Corp. is not entitled to a jury trial in the New York attorney general’s lawsuit over its allegedly crooked home appraisals for Washington Mutual Inc., according to a decision filed by the New York state court on Tuesday.

Judge Charles E. Ramos of the Supreme Court of New York shot down First American’s bid for a jury trial as it faces claims it colluded with now-defunct WaMu to inflate home values and boost the bank’s lending business.
