Euro Data Watchdog Calls For Safeguards On IMI System

Law360, New York (November 23, 2011, 6:46 PM EST) -- A European privacy watchdog recommended Tuesday that changes to the Internal Market Information System, an online application used by European Union authorities for cross-border communication, should be reviewed for their impact on data protection.

The European Data Protection Supervisor said in an opinion that for each expansion in scope of the IMI, the 27-country bloc should conduct a data protection impact assessment and consult the EDPS and national data protection watchdogs.
