BSkyB Rivals Decry Purchase Of ITV Stake

Law360, New York (July 6, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Two United Kingdom broadcasters have echoed criticism brought by Virgin Media Inc., telling Britain's antitrust body that British Sky Broadcasting Group's acquisition of a stake in ITV Plc would stifle competition and compromise the independence of news in the country.

The British Broadcasting Corp. and Channel 4 joined Virgin Media in warning the U.K.'s key antitrust regulator that BSkyB's purchase of a 17.9% holding in ITV would have a negative impact on everything from competition to news provision.
