Minority Workers Target Ill. DOT In $650M Race Bias Suit

Law360, New York (November 30, 2011, 7:06 PM EST) -- A minority contractors and workers group hit the Illinois Department of Transportation with a $650 million lawsuit last week, asserting the agency had not done enough to secure jobs and construction project contracts for underrepresented laborers.

The Metro East Black Contractors Organization Inc., based in St. Louis, alleges the department has acknowledged the need for a higher percentage of minorities and women in its projects but has failed to meet its own goal of including 22.77 percent minority and female participation.
