Pfizer Gains Victory In Irish Lipitor Case

Law360, New York (July 10, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An Irish court has handed drug maker Pfizer Inc. a victory in its battle against generics maker Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd., ruling that a generic version of blockbuster cholesterol drug Lipitor would infringe Pfizer's patents.

The decision, handed down on Tuesday by the High Court in Dublin, prohibits Ranbaxy from producing a generic version of atorvastatin, the active ingredient in Lipitor, until 2011, when Pfizer's patents for the drug expire.

Pfizer applauded the court's decision.
