Law360, New York (December 02, 2011, 4:20 PM ET) -- A consumer slapped Samsung Electronics America Inc. and Lowe's Cos. Inc. with a putative class action in New Jersey federal court on Wednesday alleging the companies falsely touted certain Samsung refrigerators as Energy Star-qualified.
While refrigerators qualifying for the Energy Star rating are more expensive than standard models, they save consumers more in the long run by cutting the cost of electricity bills since the federal government requires them to use 20 percent less energy than standard appliances, according to the complaint.
