Airbus Targets Boeing Partner's Winglet Patent

Law360, New York (December 02, 2011, 8:34 PM ET) -- Airplane manufacturer Airbus SAS sued Aviation Partners Inc. in Texas federal court on Thursday, claiming that an Aviation Partners Inc. patent for so-called winglets, used to conserve fuel and reduce drag on planes made by Airbus rival The Boeing Co., is invalid.

EADS NV subsidiary Airbus, which is based in Toulouse-Blagnac, France, wants the court to declare that the “Blended winglet” patent is invalid, that Aviation Partners is barred from asserting it against Airbus, and that Airbus hasn't infringed.
