Hartford Admitted Duty In ZIP Code Cases: Crate & Barrel

Law360, New York (December 06, 2011, 5:29 PM ET) -- Crate & Barrel said Monday that Hartford Fire Insurance Co. must defend it in several privacy class actions over its collection of customers' ZIP codes, arguing in Illinois federal court that Hartford has all but admitted its obligation by agreeing to defend one of the cases.

Hartford sued Crate & Barrel's parent company, Euromarket Designs Inc., in May, seeking declaratory judgment that it does not have a duty to defend Crate & Barrel in seven proposed class actions filed in California state and federal courts....
