J&J, Coloplast, Others Face Cancer Treatment Patent Suit

Law360, New York (December 7, 2011, 9:21 PM EST) -- Medical device manufacturer World Wide Medical Technologies LLC launched a suit Tuesday in Florida federal court accusing Johnson & Johnson, Coloplast Corp., Core Oncology Inc. and others of infringing patented technology used in brachytherapy cancer treatments.

World Wide said the companies regularly purchased from another company its patented preloaded hollow needle implantation system for brachytherapy without World Wide's authorization. Brachytherapy is a treatment in which low-dose radioactive seeds are implanted in specific patterns near a tumor in a cancer patient's body, according to the complaint....
