UK Proposal May Spur Slew Of New REITs, Takeovers

Law360, New York (December 6, 2011, 7:17 PM EST) -- Changes to British tax law proposed Tuesday would make real estate investment trusts in the country more ripe for takeover from foreign investors by loosening the requirements for certain tax exemptions.

Among several draft laws proposed by the U.K. Treasury were rules that would ease regulations on ownership and stock exchange requirements for REITs. A separate provision would also remove a fee for gaining REIT status in the country.
