5th Circ. Upholds Convictions Over Charity's Hamas Ties

Law360, New York (December 7, 2011, 7:20 PM EST) -- The Fifth Circuit on Wednesday upheld the 2008 convictions of five men the U.S. government accused of helping finance the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas through a Texas-based charity.

A three-judge panel rejected the argument made by defendants Mohammad El-Mezain, Shukri Abu Baker, Ghassan Elashi, Abdulrahman Odeh and Mufid Abdulqader, who were affiliated with the now-defunct Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, that they hadn't received a fair trial.
