France Fines Colgate, P&G For Fixing Detergent Prices

Law360, New York (December 08, 2011, 6:45 PM ET) -- France's competition authority is fining major household product makers Colgate-Palmolive Co., Procter & Gamble Co. and Henkel AG & Co. a total of €361 million ($482 million) for fixing the prices of detergents, the agency said Thursday.

The companies, along with Unilever, are accused by the Autorite de la concurrence of meeting regularly to agree on prices for their various detergent products — setting allowed price points for high-end, mid-range and low-end brands — and coordinating the promotions the brands would offer.
