House Dems Unveil Bill To Boost CFTC's Funding Stream

Law360, New York (December 8, 2011, 1:53 PM EST) -- House Democrats announced legislation Thursday aimed at properly funding the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission to regulate the financial transactions that led to the 2008 financial crisis, MF Global Holdings Ltd.'s bankruptcy and the speculation-sparked rise in energy prices.

The Wall Street Accountability Through Sustainable Funding Act, sponsored by Reps. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn.; Peter Welch, D-Vt.; and Leonard Boswell, D-Iowa, would create a stable funding mechanism for the agency, which currently relies on annual appropriations from Congress, without requiring taxpayer dollars.
