Lawmakers Float Bill Barring Contracts With FCPA Violators

Law360, New York (December 8, 2011, 5:27 PM EST) -- Reps. Peter Welch, D-Vt., and Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, on Wednesday introduced legislation that would ban individuals and companies convicted of bribing foreign officials from doing contract work for the federal government.

The Overseas Contract Reform Act would prohibit federal government contracts with any contractors convicted of violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and would cause any ongoing contracts with contractors convicted of violating the law to be severed 30 days after all possible appeals of the conviction are exhausted.
