Brazil Goes To WTO Over U.S. Farm Subsidies

Law360, New York (July 12, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Brazil has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization over U.S. government farm subsidies, which the South American country claims may unfairly skew agricultural commerce.

Brazil requested consultations with the U.S. regarding its domestic support and agricultural subsidy programs offered to domestic farmers between 1999 and 2005, the country's foreign ministry said Wednesday. If the countries do not resolve the complaint within 60 days, the WTO may launch a formal investigation.
