Judge Grants Class Cert. In Whirlpool Benefits Action

Law360, New York (December 12, 2011, 9:30 PM EST) -- An Ohio federal judge on Monday certified a class of retirees suing Whirlpool Corp. for allegedly reducing the medical benefits negotiated by their union when they worked at a Hoover Co. vacuum plant.

U.S. District Judge Benita Y. Pearson certified the class of former workers of the Canton, Ohio, plant who were represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 1985 and retired before Whirlpool sold off the unit to Techtronic Industries Co. Ltd. in January 2007.
