Canada, US Steel End Dispute Over Stelco Deal

Law360, New York (December 12, 2011, 7:47 PM EST) -- Canada and United States Steel Corp. have reached an out-of-court settlement in a government lawsuit accusing the company of faltering on production and employment promises after it acquired Stelco Inc. in 2007, a Canadian official announced Monday.

Canadian Industry Minister Christian Paradis said in a statement that new commitments from U.S. Steel, many of which run to 2015, pose benefits that probably wouldn't have been possible through the court process. Those commitments include pledges over continued plant operations and additional capital investments, Paradis said.
