DOJ Sets Record-High $6B Fraud Recovery In 2011

Law360, New York (December 13, 2011, 8:42 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Justice has recovered a record $5.6 billion in criminal and civil fraud payments, driven by more aggressive pursuits of Medicare fraud and unscrupulous government contractors, the agency said Tuesday.

The amount broke the previous single-year record for fraud recoveries, and more than doubled the amount recovered by the federal government in 2008, the final year of the Bush administration, according to Deputy Attorney General James M.
