Stanford Found Competent To Face Trial: Prosecutors

Law360, New York (December 15, 2011, 5:03 PM ET) -- A federal medical center in North Carolina has found Robert Allen Stanford competent to stand trial on charges he masterminded a $7 billion Ponzi scheme, prosecutors said Thursday.

Stanford was deemed incompetent to stand trial in January and committed to the Federal Medical Center in Butner, N.C., for treatment and evaluation. Stanford claims to suffer from memory loss as a result of a head trauma he received in prison in September 2009 and dementia as a result of addiction to anti-anxiety medication Klonopin.
