9th Circ. Backs Veoh In UMG Video Infringement Suit

Law360, New York (December 20, 2011, 5:09 PM ET) -- The Ninth Circuit on Tuesday upheld a California court's ruling that Veoh Networks Inc. had federal protection from the copyright infringement claims brought by Universal Music Group Inc., in a case that has been closely watched by those following the nationwide anti-piracy debate.

A three-judge panel agreed with the Central District of California's ruling that the video-sharing site is protected by a safe harbor provision in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, despite its users' ability to download videos that often are infringing.
