NY Times Wants DOJ To Give Up Docs On Targeted Killing

Law360, New York (December 20, 2011, 8:42 PM EST) -- The New York Times Co. hit the U.S. Department of Justice with a lawsuit Tuesday over its alleged refusal to turn over records addressing the legality of killing individuals suspected to have connections to terrorist groups.

The suit contends two of the paper's reporters, co-plaintiffs Charlie Savage and Scott Shane, submitted requests under the Freedom of Information Act for the documents, and that the DOJ denied both in October. The Times filed appeals Nov. 4 but has yet to receive a response, in violation of the...
