Law360, New York (December 22, 2011, 6:37 PM ET) -- The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation on Thursday consolidated five Telephone Consumer Protection Act class actions aimed at debt collection agency Portfolio Recovery Associates LLC, which allegedly used an automated system to call debtors' cellphones without their consent.
The cases will be centralized in the Southern District of California, over the objections of plaintiffs in the Northern District of Georgia and Middle District of Florida, who said their putative statewide classes are substantially different than the classes alleged in the other three actions.
