Sen. Eyes Source Of Bechtel Whistleblower Defense Cash

Law360, New York (December 21, 2011, 7:29 PM EST) -- U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., is investigating whether nuclear contractor Bechtel Corp. used federal funds to defend itself in a whistleblower retaliation suit, according to a Wednesday letter to the Department of Energy.

McCaskill, who chaired a Dec. 6 Senate hearing on contractor whistleblowers, asked the DOE's National Nuclear Security Administration for information about allegations that the U.S. reimbursed Bechtel's legal costs in a suit brought by a whistleblower who works at the Hanford Nuclear Facility in Washington state.
