Law360, San Diego (December 22, 2011, 6:06 PM ET) -- The World Trade Organization initiated an arbitration proceeding Thursday to review a claim by the U.S. seeking to impose up to $10 billion in trade sanctions on the EU for allegedly failing to comply with a WTO order to end subsidies for Airbus SAS.
The WTO Dispute Settlement Body agreed the conflict should proceed to arbitration after the EU contested the level of countermeasures requested by the U.S. and asked for the referral, according to representatives for U.S. and EU trade officials.
