SmartDrive Meets DriveCam Patent Claims Head-On

Law360, New York (December 23, 2011, 5:18 PM EST) -- Driving safety and efficiency monitoring technology company SmartDrive Systems Inc. fiercely rebutted rival DriveCam Inc.'s allegations of patent infringement Tuesday in California federal court, filing counterclaims for antitrust and trade secrets violations.

“We firmly believe that DriveCam has engaged in anti-competitive behavior designed to harm SmartDrive,” SmartDrive President Jason Palmer said in a statement Thursday.

The company also announced Thursday that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office had rejected all claims in DriveCam's U.S. Patent Number 7,804,426 as unpatentable due to prior art references and also...
