Marvel Whips ‘Ghost Rider’ Creator's Copyright Suit

Law360, New York (January 03, 2012, 7:51 PM ET) -- A New York federal judge ruled last week that a comic book writer cannot bring copyright claims against Marvel Enterprises Inc. over “Ghost Rider,” because he signed over all rights to the character and his origin story in two separate contracts.

U.S. District Judge Katherine B. Forrest ruled on Dec. 28 that because of the two contracts Marvel owns the rights to the character and the comic book volume in which he first appeared, and that as a result author Gary Friedrich cannot sue for copyright...
