Law360, New York (January 05, 2012, 9:45 PM ET) -- A California federal judge on Thursday tossed a suit lodged by farmers and environmental groups seeking to force the U.S. Department of Agriculture to reconsider its plan to allow widespread cultivation of Monsanto Co.'s genetically modified alfalfa crop.
In granting the USDA's summary judgment motion, U.S. District Judge Samuel Conti said the agency had satisfactorily assessed the potential environmental and plant pest risks posed by Monsanto's pesticide-resistant Roundup Ready alfalfa before approving the crop.
