French Court Calls Gambling Monopoly Illegal

Law360, New York (July 18, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A French court has ruled that France's refusal to allow outside competitors into its online gambling market is a violation of European Union law, in a decision that may bring an end to the state-run gambling monopoly.

France's highest court, the Cour de Cassation, ruled on Wednesday that France must allow online gambling company Zeturf, based in Malta, to operate in France.
