Blocked $97M Dole Judgment Won't Get High Court Hearing

Law360, New York (January 09, 2012, 3:02 PM ET) -- The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to review the Eleventh Circuit's finding that a $97.4 million judgment in a Nicaraguan court against Dole Food Co. and Dow Chemical Co. over alleged pesticide-related injuries among banana farmers could not be enforced.

The move comes after the Eleventh Circuit turned down the plaintiffs' petition for an en banc hearing, in which they argued both the appeals court and a Florida federal court had disrespected the Nicaraguan legal system and violated the Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation...
