Calif. Car Washes To Pay $1M To Rinse Away Wage Suit

Law360, New York (January 10, 2012, 9:45 PM ET) -- Eight California car washes agreed to pay more than $1 million to settle allegations that they underpaid workers, denied rest and meal periods, and created phony records of time worked, California's attorney general said Tuesday.

The car washes will pay more than $1 million in restitution of unpaid wages and civil penalties, as well as $50,000 in employment taxes, according to a stipulation of settlement approved by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge Tuesday.
