Pepsi Settles EEOC Race Discrimination Claims For $3M

Law360, New York (January 11, 2012, 2:36 PM EST) -- Pepsi Beverages Co. agreed to pay $3.13 million to resolve claims that the company's criminal background check policy for potential employees constituted racial discrimination, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced Wednesday in Minneapolis.

Under terms of the settlement, the funds will be split among more than 300 African American applicants who were adversely affected by the discriminatory policy between 2006 and 2010, with a small portion of the money going toward administrative costs, the agency said.
