CNOOC Begins Its First On-Shore Shale Drilling in China

Law360, New York (January 12, 2012, 5:17 PM EST) -- A subsidiary of major offshore energy producer China National Offshore Oil Corp. has started its first on-shore shale-gas drilling project in China, the company announced Wednesday.

Hong Kong-based CNOOC Ltd. began seismic exploration over a 1,853-square-mile area in the eastern Anhui province Dec. 29. Investment costs for the project were not immediately available, though the company has made several multibillion investments in recent exploration deals.
