Detectives Claim NYPD Racial Bias Against Black Workers

Law360, New York (January 18, 2012, 5:08 PM EST) -- Black detectives working for the New York City Police Department's Intelligence Division lodged a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission last month, claiming they were routinely passed over for promotions because of racially discriminatory policies.

In a complaint filed Dec. 14 by the New York Civil Liberties Union, three detectives claim their superiors in the NYPD regularly denied promotions to African-Americans, in addition to assigning them to less desirable units and paying them less than white detectives.
