UMG, Others Can't Quash Royalty Suit Over Rapper

Law360, Los Angeles (January 18, 2012, 3:39 PM ET) -- A California state judge on Wednesday denied Universal Music Group Inc., Interscope Records and others' bid to toss a breach of contract lawsuit alleging they withheld royalties from a music production company that claims to have discovered the rapper Game.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michelle Rosenblatt kept intact most of Desperado Entertainment Inc.'s lawsuit, trimming only a claim against the defendants for unjust enrichment and scaling back a portion of Desperado's claim alleging the record companies breached an obligation to provide accounting statements.
