J&J Settles Texas' Risperdal Suit For $158M

Law360, New York (January 19, 2012, 1:07 PM ET) -- A Johnson & Johnson unit will pay $158 million to settle claims by the state of Texas that it illegally marketed antipsychotic drug Risperdal, the company announced Thursday.

The lawsuit sought more than $1 billion in reimbursement and penalties.

“This settlement represents a resolution to claims brought by the state in 2004 for alleged Medicaid overpayment during the years 1994 [to] 2008, and will circumvent potentially lengthy and costly appellate activities,” the unit, Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc., said in a statement.
